I.V. Cannula, also known as Intravenous Cannula, is used for different treatments and preventive care. Medical staff insert I.V. Cannulas for injecting medications, fluids, and blood directly into the vein. A cannula eliminates the need to inject a new needle for every removal, delivery of fluids or taking samples. I.V. Cannulas come in different sizes, with each having unique features.
Types of I.V. Cannula
I.V. Cannulas are divided into two categories- Safety and Non- Safety. As cannulas are used for puncturing the skin, there is a risk of infection and may lead to complications such as phlebitis and hematoma. This is the reason why it is advisable to opt for safety I.V. Cannulas. Approximately 80% of the hospital staff can stay protected from needle stick injuries by using I.V. Cannulas. HMD, one of the renowned names in the healthcare sector, offers safety I.V. cannulas namely Cathy+ and Cathula+ I.V. Cannulas. These have been designed to reduce the risk of needlestick injuries.
Cathy I.V. Cannulas
Cathy I.V. Cannulas are easy to operate and offer a safe method of administering medicines without causing any trauma. The Cathy+ Safety Cannula comes with a SIPCLIP, which encapsulates the tip of the used needle on extraction, post caulation. The SIPCLIP prevents accidental needlestick injury. The I.V. - Siliconised, electrofinished, back cut bevelled stainless steel needles
- Sharp Injury Prevention (SIP) clip
- Thumb rest for proper grip
- Blood stopper to expedite blood flashback to enable correct cannulation
- Single use, sterile, non-toxic and non-pyrogenic
- Angled and grooved wings for easy fixation
- Medication can be injected using a syringe without a needle to prevent injuries
Cathula I.V. Cannula
Another safety I.V. Cannula offered by HMD, Cathula Safety I.V. Cannulas come with TipClip, a special feature that encapsulates the tip of the needle. This prevents accidental needlestick injuries, provided the users follow the general and safe working precautions. Some of the unique features include:
- Made of medical grade, non-toxic polypropylene, which is compatible with any medicine
- TIPCLIP prevents needlestick injuries by encapsulating the needles
- A protected valve with easy to open injection port
- Single-use, non-toxic and sterile
