An Intravenous Cannula (I.V.) cannula is a small and flexible plastic tube that is inserted into a vein, typically in your hand or arm. It is used for providing fluids, administering drugs and medication, giving blood transfusions, and for CT scans (computed tomography) and nuclear imaging. Since the cannula punctures the skin, there is always a risk of infection and developing complications such as hematoma, embolism and phlebitis. Healthcare providers must take precautions to prevent the same.

According to the WHO (World Health Organization), close to 80% of all hospital staff can be protected from needle stick injuries – that can cause transmission of blood-borne pathogens like HIV and Hepatitis B – with the mandatory use of Safety I.V. Cannulas.

At Hindustan Syringes & Medical Devices (HMD) Ltd., we offer two types of I.V. Cannulas, namely Cathy + I.V. Cannulas and Cathula + I.V. Cannulas. Both are Safety I.V Cannulas, designed to minimize the risk of needle-stick injuries and unforeseen blood splash.

Cathy + I.V. Cannula

Cathy + is a safety I.V. cannula that is easy to operate, offering a safe and convenient method of administering medication without trauma. Its key features are as follows:

  • Two way/one way I.V. Cannula with wings

  • Single-use, sterile, non-pyrogenic, and non-toxic

  • Offers ease of penetration, its required penetration force being far lower than PTFE catheters

  • Equipped with a low-pressure injection valve to facilitate extra medication and prevent its backflow

  • The Safety SIP (Sharps Injury Protection) CLIP is the protection device that encapsulates the entire tip of the used needle, providing robust needle tip protection

  • Colored Injection Port Cap for identifying size

  • Angled & grooved wings ensure easy fixation and prevent the cannula from shifting and rolling in the patient’s body

  • Medication can be injected by a syringe without a needle, bringing down chances of infection, preventing needle-stick injuries, and saving needle cost

  • The tip of the needle has a short bevel ‘back’ cut point for easy catheterization and minimizing pain and risk of perforation

  • Available in the gauge sizes of 16G, 17G, 18G, 20G, 22G, 24G, 25G.

  • Single-use, sterile, non-pyrogenic, and non-toxic

  • Offers total needle tip protection as the protection device TIPCLIP encapsulates the entire tip of the used needle when introducer needle is extracted from the Catheter post-Cannulation

  • Made up of nontoxic, medical-grade polypropylene, which is compatible with any medication

  • The valve is protected with an easy-to-open Injection Port Cap

  • The Injection Port Cap is color-coded for size identification

  • The Injection port and receiving end of the wing have a 6% Luer taper in accordance with ISO:80369

  • The ultra-sharp needle is made of cold-rolled stainless-steel strips. The tip of the needle has a short bevel ‘back’ cut point that makes catheterization easy and reduces pain and chances of cross perforation

  • Available in the gauge sizes of 16/17/18/20/22/24/26G
