An Intravenous Cannula (I.V.) cannula is a small and flexible plastic tube that is inserted into a vein, typically in your hand or arm. It is used for providing fluids, administering drugs and medication, giving blood transfusions, and for CT scans (computed tomography) and nuclear imaging. Since the cannula punctures the skin, there is always a risk of infection and developing complications such as hematoma, embolism and phlebitis. Healthcare providers must take precautions to prevent the same.
According to the WHO (World Health Organization), close to 80% of all hospital staff can be protected from needle stick injuries – that can cause transmission of blood-borne pathogens like HIV and Hepatitis B – with the mandatory use of Safety I.V. Cannulas.
At Hindustan Syringes & Medical Devices (HMD) Ltd., we offer two types of I.V. Cannulas, namely Cathy + I.V. Cannulas and Cathula + I.V. Cannulas. Both are Safety I.V Cannulas, designed to minimize the risk of needle-stick injuries and unforeseen blood splash.
