Yes, HMD Vaku-8 Blood Collection Tubes have a sterile interior. Tubes are sterilised by gamma irradiation.
HMD Vaku-8 Blood Collection Tubes are irradiated to achieve sterility. These tubes are sterile on the interior only. We do not recommend re-sterilising the tubes.
The expiration date on the tube label is stated as a Year/Month. The tubes can be used till the end of the month of its expiry.

HMD Vaku-8 Blood Collection Tubes are packaged with 100 tubes/polystyrene tray and 1,000 tubes/case (10 trays).
Local waste collectors should be consulted to see what the proper method of disposal is for unused, expired blood collection products.
An inversion is one complete turn of the wrist, 180 degrees, and back. Tubes should be inverted according to the following recommendations:
- SST and serum tubes – 5 inversions
- Additive tubes (EDTA, heparin, etc) – 8-10 inversions
- Sodium citrate tubes (blue top) – 3-4 inversions
The Blood Collection Tubes should be stored at cool a place, exposure to excessive heat should be avoided.
HMD Vaku-8 Serum and SST tubes are coated with silicon and micronized silica particles to accelerate clotting. A silicon coating reduces adherence of red cells to tube walls. The silica coating can sometimes cause the inner tube wall to appear cloudy and/or filmy. This cloudy appearance is normal and does not affect use.
HMD Vaku-8 Tubes are made of a special formulation of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). This special formulation is extremely strong, dimensionally stable, and resistant to chemicals and breakage.
