Quality Assurance in Hepatitis Care

According to WHO, at least one person succumbs to hepatitis every 30 seconds, totalling over 10 lakh fatalities annually. That’s more than the deaths caused by malaria and HIV combined.

To spread awareness about Hepatitis, World Hepatitis Day is observed each year on the 28th of July. This day commemorates the birthday of Dr Baruch Blumberg (1925-2011), who discovered and developed a vaccine for the Hepatitis B virus and subsequently won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1976.

Controlling the Spread of Hepatitis

Hepatitis is a life-threatening disease that compromises the healthy functioning of the liver – a vital organ that fights infections, processes nutrients and filters blood. There are five types of Hepatitis viruses – Hepatitis A, B, C, D and E. Their symptoms include fatigue, fever, abdominal pain, joint pain, vomiting, nausea, light-coloured stool, dark urine, and jaundice.

But even decades after Dr Baruch’s vital contribution, this disease continues to plague lakhs worldwide, with pre-used and contaminated medical equipment being one of the leading causes.

And so, HMD helps battle its spread by manufacturing equipment with quality assurance and propagating effective medical equipment use

Dispojekt Safety Needle

Dispojekt Safety Needle by HMD improves traditional needle design to facilitate safer medical equipment use. It offers a Sharp Injury Prevention (SIP) Shield to reduce the chances of accidental needle pricks. All healthcare workers have to do is pull the shield back to use the needle and then push it back to encase it within the plastic shield.

Safety I.V. Cannulas

HMD offers two safety I.V. cannulas – Cathy+ and Cathula+ I.V. cannulas. Both are single-use, sterile, easy-to-use I.V. cannulas that prevent needlestick injuries and blood contamination. The Cathy+ comes with a SIP clip, while the Cathula+ offers a TIP Clip that encases the needle’s tip after use.

Kojak Auto Disable Syringe

Kojak Syringe by HMD has a ring and break mechanism that automatically disables the syringe if reuse is attempted, ensuring each patient gets a sterile and fresh syringe. Further, its siliconised needle ensures minimal pain and ease of use by facilitating smooth penetration and withdrawal.

HMD Provides Quality Assurance

All three products – the Dispojekt safety needle, safety I.V cannulas, and the Kojak auto-disable syringe are facilitators of a safer future where hepatitis no longer poses the threat it does today.

We at HMD endeavour to improve the lives of patients and healthcare professionals alike by providing medical equipment with quality assurance and enabling effective medical equipment use. With HMD, you benefit from our 66 years of experience in the medical field and receive nothing but the best.
